Steps of Life

I apologize for being a terrible person filled with unkept promises when I said I would blog once a week. Sorry?

I’m a Junior in high school! The MOST stressful year because that’s when colleges really look at your grades, how well you manage outside forces, and stay alive in your tiny island called “social life.” So yeah, this is my (pathetic) excuse as to not blogging.

But speaking of Junior year, I just realized that a person’s life is similar to going up a staircase. I’ll show you what I mean:

[Funny story before we move on 😀 My house has a spiral staircase and whenever my friends go to my house. They first thing they do is go up and down the stairs because (and I quote) “it’s fun.” ….I don’t even understand….]

Gonna Fly

Hiya!

Has anyone heard of the cliche “Never giving up?” Or something close to that? Well, some people may think cliches are boring and too straight forward to take seriously, but I think that they are the gates to human truth. To “never give up” requires confidence, dedication, and positivity. I mean, who doesn’t want any of these? In class we watch a classic movie called “Rocky” which is about wrestling. I personally don’t like wrestling because of the violence and the blood, but you really got to admire the dedication that wrestlers have to put into their career, no, hobby. They are passionate about winning and fighting. Here’s the song that I’ve chosen for this blog and it came straight from the movie “Rocky,” “Gonna Fly” or also called “Rocky’s Theme.”

Don’t Stop Believing

Hello everyone!

This week in class, our English teacher showed us this video about two African American boys, Malcolm Brickhouse and Jarad Dawkins, who want to start a boy band to express their feelings about life and relationships they don’t like. They’re are extremely talented boys who didn’t stop at anything to reach their goal. They are now doing gigs and playing their music in the streets. Here’s the video documenting about their success and dream.

They’re really inspirational in that they dreamed of making a band ever since that birthday party. Their big imagination then put into practice and now they can skillfully play the drubs and electric guitar. I’ve related this lesson to the song “Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey. Here’s the original song (just in case people like the original and classic) and the Glee version of it (because I like Glee and how they make covers of songs).

I think that this song really relates to what we watched in class. The two boys had a dream, and they chased after it. In the documentary, both of them said that they didn’t want to be part of the norm and follow the status-quo. Not many people liked heavy metal or rock, but these two boys refused to follow the pop trends and decided to choose their own likes and dislikes. Their dream and goal really connects with this song.

Crows vs. Crops

Some may be wondering why I posted twice today. The simple reason is this: school.
First if all, if you haven’t read from my “About Me” page, me and my fellow peers are supposed to create a blog of what you like. There’s also this assignment that we have to post once a week about what we learned in class. I’ve decided to do one post a week about music and another about school. I’m not saying this is really tedious or anything. To be honest, I love my English class and I’m always excited to find out what new thing we’re going to be learning about.

As some may have guessed from my previous post “Paradise,” was school intended. I talked about a Sophocles play about Oedipus. What I learned this time was called “Crows vs. Crops.” Our class is doing an innovation project to meet the common need and make life easier and create a better community. We would come up with our idea and then enter the “Crows vs. Crops” stage. This stage was when people question your project/idea and hopefully, you’ll be able to think of things you haven’t thought of and might consider doing. The “crops” are the produce or goals that are set in your mind and the “crows” are these following questions that will help guide you. The “crows” are to pick and peck out the problems so they they can be solved.
